Violinist Samuel Chen can be heard in many concert series and orchestras throughout California like the Town and Gown Concert Series, the Mendocino Festival Orchestra, and the National Festival Orchestra. Although born in California, Samuel spent most of his childhood in Taiwan. Under the instruction of his mother, Esther Chen, he started playing the piano at age four and the violin at age seven. He received his bachelor's degrees in business economics and violin performance from University of California, Irvine, and a master's degree in violin performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Dedicated to community service, Samuel performs regularly at senior centers and retirement communities. He was a teaching assistant to his mother's violin studio, and has many years of teaching experience in the San Francisco Bay Area and Orange County. His principal teachers are Esther Chen, Haroutune Bedelian, Ian Swensen, and Catherine van Hoesen.
